Deuteronomy 8:11–18 Translation

8:11 You be careful lest you should forget YHWH your God by not keeping his commandments and his rulesand his statutes which I am commanding you this day.

8:12 lest you should eat and be satisfied and build good houses and have lived in them

8:13 and your herds and sheep should be great and your silver and gold should be great and all you have is great

8:14 then your heart will be lifted up (וְרָ֖ם) and you will forget (וְשָֽׁכַחְתָּ֙) YHWH your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery

8:15 the one who led you through the great and terrifying wilderness, with its fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty ground where there was no water, the one who brought you water out of the flinty rock,

8:16 the one who fed you with manna in the wilderness that your fathers did not know in order to humble you and to test you to do you good in the end

8:17 And you will say in your heart “My strength and the might of my hand have done this wealth.”

8:18 But you shall remember YHWH your God for he gives to you strength to get wealth, in order to confirm his covenant which he himself swore to your fathers, as it is this day.
